Turnips |
12 ounces fresh turnips (3 strips) |
Chopped bacon (1 ham hock) Render bacon until very crisp. Add clean turnips and stir until they melt. Cover with water; add salt and cook until tender. Sweet Potatoes
Place a layer of aluminum foil on a large cookie sheet. |
Lightly butter large sweet potatoes. Place in pan (uncovered) and bake very slowly in 250° oven. (About 2 hours!) Leave on counter until cool. Melt one stick of butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Peel potatoes and place in baking dish -- pour sugar and butter mixture over potatoes and heat. Gravy
Add fat (oil, shortening, or butter) to skillet. |
Add flour to make thick rue. Brown very slowly. Add stock and salt/pepper to taste! |
