Air Date: March 13, 2001 Apple Pie (French) Preheat oven to 425 degrees. | 1 cup sugar 1/3 cup cake flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon dash of salt 8 cups sliced/pared apples 3 tablespoons butter Place one (1) layer of crust into 10" deep-dish pie pan. Stir all ingredients together and turn into pan. Sprinkle with crumb topping (see below) and bake for 50 minutes. (Place aluminum foil over top of pie for the last 10 minutes of baking.) Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes. Apple Pie (Dutch) Preheat oven to 425 degrees. | 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup cake flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 6 cups sliced/pared apples 2 tablespoons butter Place one (1) layer of crust into 9" pie pan. Stir all ingredients together and pour into pan. Add top layer of crust -- be sure to cut holes in the top for steam to escape!! Bake for 50 minutes. To make this a "Dutch Apple Pie", pour 1/2 cup whipping cream through slits, and let bake for five (5) more minutes. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes. Crumb Topping 1 cup cake flour | 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup brown sugar Cut together with pastry cutter. Sprinkle on top of pie and bake as usual. Cover pie with aluminum foil the last ten (10) minutes of baking. |
